How ‘Gorillas Brought the World to our Village’

The endangered Mountain Gorillas have helped ‘bring the world’ to a tiny village in southwestern Uganda.

The dwellers of Nkuringo village in Nyabwishenya sub-county Kisoro district believe their village, which neighbors Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is known worldwide because of their neighbors — the endangered mountain gorillas.

About 1,100 Mountain Gorillas remaining on Earth live in three countries: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Half of these live within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwestern Uganda.

Ugandan journalist Jemima Ayebare talked to one of the residents of Nkuringo village in this podcast.

The Big Gorilla Story project funded the production of this podcast. This podcast was first aired on Radio West in Mbarara City.
